Haze Attack

As of today, we are still under biochemical attack from our good friend Indonesia. Basically, the reasons for The Haze can be summarized into 3 points:

1. Incompetent Government
2. Moronic Farmers
3. Avaricious Plantation Owners

And if you look at this whole problem carefully, the other two points are irrelevant. Moronic Farmers can be educated to be less moronic and relocated and given proper land so that they don't become a threat to the environment and world peace. Plantation owners being the classical capitalists are naturally exploitative and would find the cheapest way to do things even if it means burning down the entire forest so long they are not being made to pay for putting out the fire. So all that needs to be done is to hit them where it hurts most; freeze their business if they are suspected to be involved in slash and burn and then seize their lands and jail the owners if convicted of it. (Afterall, they can't make any more money in prison).

But therein lies the catch. To solve (2) and (3), one needs a competent government and the Indonesian government is either wholly incompetent, wilfully negligent or absolutely corrupted. Usually outsiders like Singaporeans and Malaysians would have no issue with that. They can slash and burn their own country up for all we care but when their domestic problem becomes a regional problem, it is a different matter. It is like, shit in your own house if you want but I am not going to tolerate the smell of your shit wafting into my house or worse throw shit into my backyard. And to think you do it not once, but every single year. Somebody should take the Indonesian government to international court and sue them. But that may not work. Perhaps better for the ASEAN countries to pool their funds to build a gigantic fan and blow all the smoke and dust back into Jakarta to let them have a taste of their own filth.
