Despotism works best

After a visit to Australia and New Zealand, our esteemed PM came to a most brilliant conclusion that he had to announce when the Australian red wine was still wet on his lips; that a one party system works best because the government can then spend the time thinking about the future of the country instead of hammering the opposition party on every single thing they say in parliament.

Ok. Now, let's first forgive him for making such a rude statement on foreign soil (He actually said that because of the two party system, the Australian government don't make sound policies which isn't really nice. Afterall, no guest of good grace would criticize openly the way hi host runs his house when he is in the host's own house! No wonder we rank so low in courtesy.)and look at the logic of his statement.
If having a one party state is more conducive for more sound public policies because the PM does not has to spend his time refuting the opposition and can then spend more time mulling over long term plans for the country, then to take this argument one step further, not having general election should be more productive for sound policies. Well, come to think of it, the campaigning period before any GE is probably more heated than any session in parliament where you really see different parties crossing swords and attempting to rally support. So why do we have such useless debate once every 5 years at all? From our PM's argument, if his party doesn't has to spend these few weeks buying votes and refuting opposition, they could have spent the time planning the next Suzhou to invest isn't it?

So let's do away with GE altogether and make all other political parties illegal for the sake of greater efficiency, just like China. But wait! This is not the optimal state. I mean, why do you even need a party at all? Having a party means there are more people making decisions and arguing over trivial details, like who should become the next minister of finance or whether we should bring in native English speakers or given our FTA with the Americans, it is better to bring in native American English speakers. So, I say following our PM's logic, remove the need for a party altogether! It is faster and easier to make decisions with only one person at the helm. Then that person not only has no need to worry about "fixing" the opposition without, he also does not need to even think about opposition within. It would be like the Tsar of Russia and better still the Pharoah of Ancient Egypt. So despotism is the best form of government afterall!
