First World Government?
Recently, there is a lot of talk about "First World Government" and "First World Opposition." Heng, people like our good friend Dr. M and the transient former president of Indonesia (I think most people would have forgotten him) Har BB, are no longer around or they would surely say Singapore si peh ya ya papaya, one small red dot also dare to make so much noise and trumpet oneself as "First World Govt".
And also heng the Bush in USA too busy clearing up all the Republican dirt that within one year suddenly surfaced (despite 5 yrs effort to sweep under carpet)and deciding whether to invade Iran or not, or he might say "If you are First World, then me America would be superworld. I superpower also never go and blare such things, you overstep your line one more time, I revoke your precious FTA then you know."
Extending from the argument that our government is First World, the Party also challenged the Opposition to provide solutions to solve the serious issues faced by Singaporeans like jobs, healthcare, competitiveness, blah blah and said all the ideas come from the Party and that the Opposition all got no idea. Yah like real.
Do you seriously think that all the constructive ideas to run the country come from the ruling Party without extension outside help meh? Let's not forget that as the ruling Party in the Government, all of them have more than 60,000 civil servants to do all the research, groundwork and legwork that are essential to good public policies. Not only that, they also can tap on the unions and the various think tanks as well. They can also have access to the top businessmen, industry associations and other high powered groups in Singapore. This is something the Opposition has no access to simply because none of them are Cabinet Ministers.
Even if we have the brightest and most capable people in the Opposition, they would not be able to engage at that same level as the Party simply because they do not have all the resources available to them to do it. By hogging all the credit for the good and constructive things done by the Government so far, the ruling Party seems to forget the contributions made by all the non-political people behind the scene.
