Wanna Bet?

Make no mistake. A casino would be built in Singapore. Oops. That is not the right way to put it. I should say, we are going to build an "integrated resort" (with the new casino as the main attraction point). No. I am not a soothsayer, nor do I have a crystal ball. But I don't need to have all that to tell the future, at least in this regards. In the sunny island of Singapore, the best way to foretell the future is to read between the lines of what ministers here said.

For those who don't realise it yet. The debate over whether to build or not to build a casino is already over. In fact, it was long over when our PM broached the subject during his National Day Rally. I think when he said he would seek people's opinion, it actually means "I will listen to you but I will do it my way". Of course, most of us were prepared to think the other way then. But by now it should be apparent that the decision was already made. It is PAP style to have a build up before unveiling grand plans, especially controversial ones. First, a junior minister would test water by saying something, then a more senior minister would add on and by the time the PM announces it, everything is good to go and all opposition would be managed by then. Good strategy but very predictable once you see how the game is played. We have already now heard some minister's opinion and where he is leaning so we know it is a matter of time before the imperial decree arrive. Anyone wanna bet on this?
